Ingredients

4 slices of thick bread (such as brioche or challah)

2 large eggs

1/2 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons butter

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup maple syrup (for serving)

Fresh fruit (such as berries or bananas, optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until fully combined. Set aside.

Caramelize Sugar: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the brown sugar to the skillet. Stir continuously for about 1-2 minutes until the sugar begins to dissolve and the mixture is bubbling slightly, creating a caramel sauce.

Dip the Bread: While the caramel is bubbling, dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well-coated but not overly soaked.

Cook the Toast: Carefully place the dipped bread slices into the skillet with the caramel sauce. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until golden brown and caramelized, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

Serve: Once both sides are caramelized, remove the French toast from the skillet. Serve warm with a drizzle of maple syrup and fresh fruit on top if desired.
