Ingredients

1 package (12 rolls) of Sweet Hawaiian Rolls

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup crushed pineapple (drained)

1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional)

1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half and place the bottom halves in the greased baking dish.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Pour half of the egg mixture over the bottom half of the rolls, ensuring all pieces are moistened.

Evenly distribute the crushed pineapple, shredded coconut, and chopped nuts (if using) over the moistened rolls.

Place the top halves of the rolls over the filling and pour the remaining egg mixture over the rolls.

Gently press down on the rolls to allow them to soak in the custard mixture. Allow to sit for at least 15 minutes (or refrigerate overnight for deeper flavor).

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

Allow to cool for a few minutes before dusting with powdered sugar. Serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top.
